Tom Cruise‘s new action movie ‘Jack Reacher’ just premiered its first official trailer.

The new film from director Christopher McQuarrie is his first since his directorial debut with ‘The Way Of The Gun’ in 2000. McQuarrie has mostly worked as a screenwriter in Hollywood, previously writing films like ‘The Tourist,’ and ‘Valkyrie,’ the 2008 action movie also starring Cruise.

The film is based on the book series of the same name, from British author Jim Grant, better known by his pen name Lee Child. The books follow the character of Reacher, a former military police officer. Fans will also notice the role of the apparent villain is actually played by famous director Werner Herzog.

The novel version of Reacher, however, is a towering 6’5″ tall. Back when it was announced that Cruise would assume his role, there was a slight controversy, given his notoriously small stature.

From the trailer, however, the height doesn’t seem to be much of an issue.

‘Jack Reacher’ is scheduled for U.S. release December 21.
