The Guardian premiered the teaser trailer for upcoming movie ‘The Iron Lady’ last week, a biopic about former British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher and the price she paid for power.

The trailer revels nothing regarding the political angle the film is set to take, rather it concentrates solely on Academy Award winner Meryl Streep’s characterization of the formidable Maggie Thatcher.

Rest assured, Streep has forgone the singing and dancing that proved so popular in ‘Mamma Mia!’ and has instead adopted a more serious tone.

The actress captures the relentless and determined traits of Britain’s first (and only) female PM. Her response that “the pearls are non-negotiable” when asked to adapt her image draws to mind the renown retort, “This lady is not for turning.” Evidently the one-minute teaser perfectly captures the essence of the former Prime Minister.

Aside from American Meryl Streep, the cast comprises a host of British acting talent. Jim Broadbent (‘Bridget Jones Diary’) will take on the role of husband Denis Thatcher while Richard E. Grant (‘Withnail and I’) is set to play right hand man Michael Heseltine.

‘The Iron Lady’ hits US screens on December 16th 2011. The release date for the UK is set for January 6th 2012.
