The trailer for upcoming animation ‘The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn’ has been revealed and it looks set to be a nostalgia filled journey, enabling fans to relive the comic strips of their youth.

‘The Secret of the Unicorn’ is the first of a trilogy, all of which are adapted from Belgian cartoonist, Georges Rèmi’s (penname: Hergè) comic book series. The Tintin series recounts the adventures of the young journalist Tintin and his dog, Snowy as they uncover crimes and unravel mysteries.

With two world-renowned moviemakers, director Stephen Spielberg and producer Peter Jackson combining their prolific talents, expectations for the movie run high. Thankfully everything they do is done with meticulous care and attention to detail.

Take the movies animation as an example. Evidently standard computer animation does not suffice. The pair have instead opted for performance capture animation. This enables facial expressions and intricate movements to be captured with detailed accuracy. As 3D movies continue to entice audiences, the decision to opt for performance capture will prove a profitable one.

The trailer itself portrays the excitement and fast-pace of the original comics. Tintin is caught up in a continuous foray of action that is interspersed with humorous moments. The balance between the two is perfect.

With both Spielberg and Jackson at the helm, it is no surprise the cast is of equal talent. Jamie Bell (‘Billy Elliot’) takes on the leading role of Tintin, while other cast members include Daniel Craig (‘James Bond’), Andy Serkis (‘Lord of the Rings’) and Simon Pegg (‘Shaun of the Dead’).

‘The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn’ is due for UK release on October 26, 2011. The US release date is December 23, 2011.
