With little over a week until cinema-goers are transported back to Middle Earth with the arrival of Peter Jackson‘s long awaited ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,’ New Line have released six clips in anticipation of the release.

Set 60 years prior to ‘The Lord of The Rings,’ the first installment in Peter Jackson ‘The Hobbit’ trilogy sees Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) forced, unexpectedly by Gandalf (Ian Mckellen), to abandon his home comforts in The Shire.

Sent on a mission to reclaim The Kingdom of Erebor from the Dragon Smaug (Benedict Cumberbatch), Bilbo journeys through Middle Earth with thirteen dwarf companions coming face to face with spiders, Orcs, elves and of course, Gollum.

The clips feature key figures from the upcoming trilogy. We are reacquainted with former characters, such as Ian Mckellen‘s Gandalf The Grey and Andy Serkis‘ Gollum. However, the clips also offer a chance to familiarize ourselves with the newer characters – Martin Freemen as Bilbo Baggins and Richard Armitage as dwarf, Thorin Oakenshield.

The clips vary considerably in their content. In one clip we see Bilbo bemused as dwarves descend, uninvited into his hobbit hole, whilst another darker and more foreboding clip shows Bilbo’s first encounter with Gollum.

‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ hits UK screens December 13 and US screens December 14.
