The first trailer for ‘The Last Stand’, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, has been released.

The film sees Arnie back in a big screen leading role for the first time since 2003’s ‘Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines’.

The trailer features explosions and action scenes aplenty, as is fitting for an icon of the action genre like Schwarzenegger; though the intensity is often broken up with humor. Jokes about Arnie’s age, and Johnny Knoxville bringing his unique personality to the film are sure to bring a few laughs to the theater. Forest Whitaker, Eduardo Noriega, Rodrigo Santoro, and Jaimie Alexander also star in the film.

‘Transformers’ film series producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura also took on production duties for this film, under the direction Kim Jee-woon, a prominent South Korean film director who is making his Hollywood directorial debut with this film.

“The Last Stand’ follows the story of LAPD officer Ray Owens (Schwarzenegger), who left Los Angeles after a failed operation left him filled with guilt. He settled in a sleepy border town and becomes the sheriff, only to find that trouble followed him there, with one of the most notorious drug kingpins (Noriega) in the country planning to race through the town trying to reach Mexico. Owens must help the FBI make their last stand in his town to bring the kingpin to justice.

The first poster for the film was also released on Wednesday.

‘The Last Stand’ is due for release January 18, 2013.
