The international trailer for Stephen Spielberg‘s forthcoming political drama ‘Lincoln’ has been released as America prepares to vote in the 2012 presidential elections.

Based on the book ‘Team of Rivals’ by Pulitzer Prize-Wining historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, ‘Lincoln’ centers on America’s 16th president during his final months in office.

Faced with the monumental task of passing the 13th amendment to abolish slavery, Lincoln faces heavy opposition from Congress that may jeopardize a peaceful end to the Civil War.

The trailer depicts a divided nation, struggling in the turbulence of the Civil War. Academy Award Winner Daniel Day Lewis perfectly portrays Lincoln as determined and powerful despite strong resistance and conflict.

Academy Award Winner Sally Field stars alongside Lewis as Lincoln’s wife, Mary Todd Lincoln while Academy Award winner Tommy Lee Jones plays Republican Congressman, Thaddeus Stevens.

‘Lincoln’ is due to hit US screens November 16th, 2012 and UK screens January 25th, 2013.
