Warner Brothers have released the first official teaser trailer for the final installment of Christopher Nolan‘s ‘Batman’ franchise, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’.

The trailer, which premiered ahead of cinema showings of ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2‘, has now been made available online.

After numerous unofficial leaks, including images from the film and secretly recorded on-location footage, this teaser will be the first official video glimpse into the long-awaited film – Which is due for release on July 20th, 2012.

The promo features footage of Gotham falling as the ill-fated Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman) is left laying in a hospital bed encouraging The Dark Knight to return. We also see a close up of movie villain Bane, played by ‘Inception’ star Tom Hardy, before the Gotham City skyline begins to crumble.

Much of the cast return for this final installment, including Michael Caine (Alfred) and Morgan Freeman (Lucious Fox). New cast member Anne Hathaway will take on the role of Catwoman, and recently cast Joseph Gordon-Levitt will also take on the role of Batman ally John Blake, a police officer assigned to “special duty” under Commissioner Gordon.
