To own a zoo seems a fanciful vision, possible in only your wildest dreams. Well the trailer for Cameron Crowe’s (‘Jerry Maguire’, ‘Almost Famous’) new movie, ‘We bought a zoo’ proves determination and hard work can turn a fanciful vision into a bizarre reality.

The film is based on the memoirs of Benjamin Mee, whose family bought, saved and restored Dartmoor Wildlife Park. Of course being a Hollywood movie, the South West of England has been exchanged for the sunshine state, California, while Hollywood heartthrob Matt Damon plays Englishman Mee.

Damon’s character is a recent widower adapting to life as a single parent. In an attempt to start afresh he spontaneously quits his job and buys a new family home… and its 47 animal residents. What may faze some people, fails to discourage Matt, after all, “They say you don’t even need any special knowledge to run a zoo. What you need is a lot of heart.” Probably not technically true, but we’ll let it slip.

Aided by his brother (Thomas Haden Church) and determined employees (Scarlett Johansson and Elle Fanning) he restores the zoo, simultaneously rebuilding his fragmented family.

Hitting theatres in both the US and UK on December 23, ‘We bought a zoo’ is destined to be this festive seasons family heart warmer.
