Mel Gibson and Antonio Banderas have signed on to star in the ‘Expendables 3.’

The news came shortly after Bruce Willis was replaced by Harrison Ford in the upcoming flick for being “Greedy and Lazy.”

Sylvester Stallone has been tweeting hints about the new casting for the past few months. The action star tweeted, “Antonio B. …?  Could be.” in May, and “Mad Max vs Barney Ross……” in July of this year. Now, the casting has been confirmed by Stallone’s rep.

Gibson (‘Mad Max,’ ‘Braveheart’) is rumored to play the main antagonist for the film; while there’s no early indication of what Banderas’ (‘Desperado,’ ‘The Mask of Zorro’) role will be in the Stallone-penned action film.

The pair join an already star-studded cast that includes Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Kellan Lutz, and many more. Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, Nicolas Cage, and Milla Jovovitch are also rumored to appear in the film, which is the 3rd installment of the Expendables franchise.

Both Banderas and Gibson will also make an appearance in the film ‘Machete Kills,’ starring Danny Trejo, which is due for release October 11.

The ‘Expendables 3’ is set to arrive in theaters on August 14, 2014.
