Dame Helen Mirren has criticized Thomas Alfredson’s current adaptation of John Le Carrè’s ‘Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy’, claiming it does not feature enough prominent women.
The Cold War thriller stars a host of British talent, including Colin Firth (‘Single Man’), Gary Oldman (‘The Dark Knight’), Benedict Cumberbatch (‘Sherlock’) and John Hurt (‘V for Vendetta’). However actress Kathy Burke (‘Harry Enfield’) features as the film’s sole female presence.
Speaking to The Sunday Times, Mirren questioned: “How many women were in that? I mean, come on. There weren’t any women in the 70s?
“The secret service always had a large number of women working for them, and they played major roles in real life. But they were ignored for this film!”
The Oscar winning actress is currently playing a Mossad Spy in her new movie ‘The Debt’.
