Warner Brothers must be rubbing their hands together in glee. ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two’ has grossed an incredible $478.2 million worldwide in it’s opening weekend, smashing all previous box office records.

The film also holds records for highest midnight debut ($43.5million), highest single day gross ($92million), and highest IMAX opening weekend ($23.2million), all mainly thanks to Potter enthusiasts who ensured they were first in line. With this kind of success, the title of all time highest grossing film looks attainable!

Part Two earned $168.5 million in the United States. ‘The Dark Knight,’ which previously held the record for US highest grossing opening weekend with a commendable $158.4 million, has been pushed to second place. However, Harry Potter has had the advantage of IMAX screenings bumping up ticket prices.

The staggering scale of Potter’s US success becomes more apparent when compared to the weekend gross of other movies. According to Box Office Mojo, ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ achieved $21.3 million, however for its third weekend this is still reasonably impressive.

Unfortunately Disney’s ‘Winnie the Pooh’ flopped achieving only $7.9 million in its opening weekend.
