Warner Bros., the same parent company that produced The Dark Knight Rises, has announced it will delay the release of its next film Gangster Squad.

The main issue with the film is found in its climax, which depicts a shootout in a movie theater in the 1940’s. Considering Warner Bros. deep ties with the Aurora, Colorado shootings last week, the company has decided to re-shoot and re-edit certain parts of the film. On exactly what would be changed, sources would not indicate.

The expected move would take Gangster Squad out of any consideration for next year’s Oscar’s, with Warner Bros. expected to move the film to January instead of its original September 7th release. The film stars Hollywood A-listers Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, and Josh Brolin in the 1940’s, centered around the fighting between the mob and police in Los Angeles.

It’s not the only release tied to last week’s shooting to be pushed back. DC Comics has decided to push back its upcoming Batman Incorporated #3 comic, which depicts several acts of gun-related violence, including a teacher pulling a gun on students.

No alterations to the comic were suggested, but the release was moved back to August 22 instead of next week.

A trailer for Gangster Squad was available, but was pulled from the internet and theaters shortly after the tragic Aurora, Colorado shootings.
