With little over a year until its anticipated release, filming for part two of ‘The Hunger Games’ trilogy has commenced.

Lionsgate confirmed production for ‘Catching Fire’ began September 10 in Atlanta, Georgia. According to the studio, shooting will later move to the Island of Hawaii before wrapping in December 2012.

Based on the novel by Suzanne Collins, ‘Catching Fire’ follows on from ‘The Hunger Games.’

The second installment of the trilogy continues following Katniss Everdeen’s (Jennifer Lawrence) victory in the 74th games. However, as rebellion mounts in Panem, Katniss, along with fellow champion Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), is forced to partake in the 75th games fighting for survival against previous victors.

The movie will be directed by Francis Lawrence and will feature Liam Hemsworth as potential love interest Gale Hawthorne, Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Pultarch Heavensbee, and Donald Sutherland as President Snow.

Celebrating the start of production, Lionsgate are offering twelve fans the chance to visit the arena… or rather, the set of ‘Catching Fire.’ To enter visit www.catchingfiresweeps.com.

‘Catching Fire’ is due for release November 22, 2013. The final instalment in the trilogy, ‘Mockingjay,’ will be split into two parts. The first has a release date of November 21 2014, with the final part due to follow a year later on November 20, 2015.
