It’s quite apparent that the audiences attracted to period dramas and Zombie movies differ…slightly! Therefore I can’t help but wonder how well a movie combining the two will do. Well moviegoers will soon find out as ‘Pride, Prejudice and Zombies’ is now in production.

The movie is an adaptation of the 2009 book of the same name written by Seth Grahame-Smith who credits Jane Austen as co-author (whether Austen would have appreciated the acknowledgment is questionable). Despite being described by New York Times critic, Macy Halford as “One hundred per cent terrible,” the book successfully reached number three on the newspapers bestseller list. It is evident Zombies attract a following.

One such fanatic appears to be 22-year-old actress Emma Stone. Stone will play leading lady Elizabeth Bennet who battles England’s ‘undead’ landed gentry. Having already played the Zombie killing heroin in ‘Zombieland,’ Stone should excel in the role, although could possibly typecast herself in the process. Thankfully her roles in ‘Easy-A’ and ‘Superbad’ may save her from this dreadful fate.

The movie is to be directed by Craig Gillespie who is perhaps best known for his direction of 2007 movie ‘Lars and the Real Girl’.

‘Pride, Prejudice and Zombies’ is not due for release until 2013, so zombie/period drama fans have a while to wait.
