There has been quite a bit of hype regarding the new Star Wars movie called “The Rise of Skywalker.” It will be released in December. People have been wondering what the next Star Wars movie will be after that. Disney CEO Bob Iger has said that the studio will not be making any Star Wars movies in the foreseeable future. Instead, they will be focusing on creating Star Wars related content for the Disney Plus streaming service that will be available starting on the 12th of November. The new series “The Mandalorian” that is set in the Star Wars universe will debut on the same day as Disney Plus.

Disney has some other plans for Star Wars as far as TV is concerned. However, Iger said this will be the last film for a while. They need to come up with some good ideas. The studio is still stinging from the “Han Solo” film that was the first film related to Star Wars to ever lose money. Iger revealed that there are a total of three Star Wars series that are in the process of being developed for the streaming service. He did not go into detail about any of them.

There was originally a plan to release more Star Wars films. However, the disaster of “Han Solo” made Disney rethink the idea of pouring millions of dollars into movies that might be bombs. Obviously, the studio will be releasing more Disney movies at some point in the future. They did not pay over $4 billion for Lucasfilm to let the franchise stagnate. It is just a matter of choosing witch Star Wars project is worth investing millions of dollars into. The failure of “Han Solo” took everyone at the studio by surprise. Disney thought they had a certain hit on their hands. As it turns out, they were very wrong.

There are many people who think it is a wise decision on the part of Disney to slow down the release of Star Wars movies for the time being. Having a new movie every two years makes it less special. One of the reasons that people were so excited about the release of “The Force Awakens” was the fact that there had not been a new Star Wars movie in over a decade. Waiting five or six years to release the next one will allow people to start craving a new Star Wars film again.
