With the release of Pixar’s newest film, ‘Cars 2’, on the horizon, the company recently announced their next big project — ‘Brave.’

This is exciting news for the animation giant because it will be the company’s first fairytale film.

A synopsis of the film reads:

Brave is set in the mystical Scottish Highlands, where Merida is the princess of a kingdom ruled by King Fergus and Queen Elinor. An unruly daughter and an accomplished archer, Merida one day defies a sacred custom of the land and inadvertently brings turmoil to the kingdom. In an attempt to set things right, Merida seeks out an eccentric old Wise Woman and is granted an ill-fated wish. Also figuring into Merida’s quest — and serving as comic relief — are the kingdom’s three lords: the enormous Lord MacGuffin, the surly Lord Macintosh, and the disagreeable Lord Dingwall.”

Along with the announcement came a teaser poster for the film.

The film’s cast includes: Kelly Macdonald from ‘Boardwalk Empire’, Julie Walters from the ‘Hary Potter’ franchise, Emma Thompson from ‘Nanny McPhee’, Kevin McKidd from ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, as well as comic Craig Ferguson.

Audiences of ‘Cars 2’ will be gifted with a teaser trailer of the film when it is released this Friday. While Pixar is known for being very family friendly, ‘Brave’ will be taking a darker turn while still appealing towards the masses.
