For millennials, the story of Bennifer is quite old. 20 years ago, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez were the “it” couple everyone aspired to be. Then, just as quickly as they were on, they were off and both quickly moved on to find new spouses and new lives.

However, this is one pair that had a second chapter coming, but even Jen didn’t appear to know it at the time. In a new interview with Zane Low from Apple Music, Jen describes the original breakup as painful. In fact, she says that it was so painful that she thought she would “die” from it.

Her relationship with Ben is not the only thing that Jennifer is working on from two decades ago, as the singer and actress is also working on a new album titled “This is Me…Now” as a very overdue follow-up to the 2002 hit album “This is Me…Then.”

She explains that Ben was the love of her life that she never got over, despite trying to for 18 years. That she kept trying with new lovers but could never get it right. Some of her past big-profile romances include A-Rod and Marc Anthony. However, now that she has finally gotten her incredible happy ending 20 years later, she feels it is time to celebrate that and capture this very specific point.

The lyrics from the first album were so poignant that after she broke up her engagement with Ben in 2004, she refused to perform them live. A fact that Ben called her out on when they got back together.

She says it was too personal and that the media really destroyed their relationship because the outside energy was too much. While that energy fueled them to work harder, it was something they both had to do on their own.

However, now that the duo is back together, Jen is ready to share her new message that love is out there and “some things do last forever and that is real.”
