Regal Movies have released an extended look behind-the-scenes of December’s hugely-anticipated ‘Les Misérables.’

The video showcases the new methods used to re-create the raw singing elements of the musical for the silver screen.

Instead of pre-recording the actors and actresses’ singing, as is done with most musicals screenplays, each song was recorded live on camera with music scored behind it – A first for a major Hollywood movie.

The famous musical, based of the seminal 1862 novel by French author Victor Hugo, was reworked by ‘The King’s Speech’ director Tom Hooper. The film stars Hugh Jackman as Jean Valijean and Russell Crowe as Inspector Javert. Valijean is released from prison by Javert after being held for 19 years. Javert then takes it upon himself to find and imprison Valijean again.

Also starring in the film are Anne Hathaway as Fantine, a factory worker turned to prostitution, and her illegitimate daughter Cosette, played by Amanda Seyfried. Samantha Barks, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Helena Bonham Carter also play key roles in the film.

‘Les Misérables’ is scheduled for release Christmas Day.
