Disney is having quite a year at the movie theaters, thanks to several blockbuster films they’ve released. Just recently, their third movie of 2019 crossed the $1 billion mark, as the live-action remake of Aladdin has now surpassed that level.

According to The Week’s report, Disney’s Aladdin hit now joins fellow Disney films Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame. Each of the superhero entries passed the $1 billion revenue level earlier this year. Also joining the $1 billion movie club in 2019 is Spider-Man: Far From Home. While the movie is part of the vast Marvel Cinematic Universe, that film is distributed by Sony.

Disney is looking to add several more films to that club based on current and future releases. The Lion King recently reached $800 million, giving it a good shot at the billion-dollar milestone. Toy Story 4 is also looking like it will surpass $1 billion in the coming weeks.

Disney will end the year on a strong note with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It’s set for a late December release date in theaters, though. However, as the grand finale of a longtime Star Wars franchise, it would be a major surprise if it fails to reach the level.

Disney’s run at theaters should only continue in the coming years. At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Disney/Marvel unveiled a Marvel Phase 4 schedule of future releases. They included The Eternals starring Angelina Jolie as well as sequels for the Thor and Doctor Stranger movies. Additionally, it was revealed that they will reboot Blade in the coming years with award-winning actor Mahershala Ali taking over the lead role.

The Aladdin film is one of several Disney live-action remakes or reboots released this year. Disney also brought out Dumbo prior to the film, but it was considered a flop at theaters. However, Lion King appears to be faring well despite mixed reception from the critics and audience reviewers. The studios are planning to release more based on the success of these films too. A Mulan trailer arrived just weeks ago, showing another Disney live-action remake is coming on March 26, 2020.
