Danny Boyle Confirms Plans for Trainspotting 2

Danny BoyleDanny Boyle has confirmed plans for a Trainspotting sequel. Loosely based on Irvine Welsh‘s follow-up novel ‘Porno,’ the adaptation can be expected in time for the 20th anniversary of the original.

Trainspotting was a 1996 British movie depicting the lives of five Edinburgh drug addicts. Staring Ewan McGregor, Robert Carlyle, Jonny Lee Millar and Ewan Bremner, the black comedy was critically acclaimed and has gained a strong cult following over the years.

While speaking to The Playlist Boyle, who also directed Slumdog Millionaire, discussed the possibility of reuniting the former cast: “This has been a long time coming, there’s always been this long-term plan for Trainspotting 2. If John [Hodge] can produce a decent enough script, I don’t think there will be any barriers to Ewan [McGregor] or any of the cast coming back. I think they’ll want to know that the parts are good so they don’t feel like they are letting anyone down.”

“The reason for doing it again is that people cherish the original, people remember it or have caught up with it if they never saw it because they were younger. So you want to make sure you don’t disappoint people. That will be the only criteria I think.”

With John Hodge currently working on a script, it shouldn’t be long before casting is confirmed.

Boyle’s latest project Trance staring James McAvoy is due for UK release March 27th and US release April 5th.
