Stacey Abrams is raking in the money for her second shot at winning the gubernatorial bid in the state of Georgia. Ms. Abrams lost in her first run in 2018 to Brian Kemp (R). The $9 million she has raised should give her campaign a financial shot in the arm needed to stay afloat.

Abrams, a voting rights activist, came on the scene in 2016 as a champion for voting rights. After her defeat to Kemp, she created the “Fair Fight” to ensure voters are fully educated about their voting rights. The organization says it is placing a spotlight on any issues voters in the state of Georgia may face when attempting to vote. The Fair Fight PAC says long lines and other irregularities are just a few of the issues that will be addressed.

“Many of her Republican opponents are all about greed. Stacey Abrams is fighting for the rights of all Georgians as she has done for years as a lawmaker,” said her campaign manager Lauren Groh-Wargo.

Abrams is the leading Democratic candidate according to polls. Her winning will set up a rematch with current Governor Brian Kemp. If she wins, she will be the first black female governor of the state of Georgia.

Spokespersons for the Kemp campaign said he has raised over $7 million and has a war chest estimated to be $12.7 million.

Kemp has a lot of financial backing, but he also has some stiff competition from former Republican Senator David Perdue, who was upset in his reelection bid to Democrat John Ossoff.

Kemp’s reelection bid may be an uphill battle due to his falling out with former President Donald Trump. Kemp’s refusal to go along with Trump’s stolen election claims made Trump pull his endorsement and jump on the Perdue bandwagon.

The race will likely be one that literally goes down to the wire. Many political gurus believe Abrams could have a significant path to victory.

There is also the issue of whether or not Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock can win reelection against MAGA candidate and former Heisman Trophy winner Hershel Walker.

As of Wednesday, Warnock’s campaign has raised just under $10 million while Walker has raised $5.4 million.
