After his own car was involved in a three vehicle collision, Luke Wilson helped rescue a woman trapped in her overturned car. On Wednesday evening in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles, an out-of-control Ferrari struck Wilson’s SUV and the BMW driven by a 50-year-old female.

Wilson, who escaped the incident with no major injuries, pulled to the side of North Chautauqua Boulevard and jumped out to help the lady in the BMW since he was afraid the car might catch on fire. He was assisted by Sean Herigs, a witness to the wreck, who had been headed home with his 14-year-old daughter in the car with him.

When Luke Wilson, age 46, and Herigs reached the BMW, the woman inside was understandably hysterical and screaming for help. They helped her escape through the back of the car, then carried her to safety.

The speeding Ferrari lost control and headed straight into oncoming traffic. It sideswiped the SUV driven by Luke Wilson, and then it careened into the BMW, which was knocked off its wheel and landed upside down.

Luke Wilson was the hero. His car was also clipped,” Sean Herigs stated following the accident, “but he just pulled over and jumped out to help immediately. He was leading the charge.”

The Ferrari was driven by Mark William Gibello, age 71, who died at the scene of the accident. Bill Haas, age 35, was Gibello’s passenger. Haas is a professional golfer. His legs were injured in the wreck and he has since withdrawn from playing in this week’s Genesis Open as he recovers. Haas is reported to be shaken up from the incident but doing well.

Detective Jeff Fischer of the Los Angeles Police Department stated that they were investigating the fatal accident. Speed was probably to blame, since Mark Gibello’s Ferrari was reported to have been traveling at an accelerated rate just before the collision.

Luke Wilson is an actor best known for his roles in movies such as 3:10 to Yuma, The Royal Tenenbaums, Death at a Funeral, and Meadowland. Wilson played Casey Kelso in That 70s Show and Levi Callow in the Enlightened television series. He is currently filming The Goldfinch, in which he takes on the role of Larry Decker.
