In the summer of 2021, Netflix announced that it would be entering the video gaming industry. Following the announcement, the American subscription service and production company has acquired various gaming companies to cement its place in the video gaming domain. Its latest acquisition happened on March 24, 2022, when Netflix announced that it has bought Boss Fight Entertainment, a mobile game company based in Texas.

Boss Fight was established in 2013 by former Ensemble Studio and Zynga Dallas employees. The company’s chief executive offer is David Rippy, its chief commercial officer is Bill Jackson and Scott Winsett is the developer’s chief operating officer. Top executives at Netflix believe that the new acquisition will increase their market base in the gaming industry. In a statement, Amir Rahini, the VP of Netflix’s game studio, said that Boss Fight Entertainment’s experience developing games across multiple genres would help accelerate Netflix’s ability to provide users with incredible games.

The gaming studio will continue to conduct its business in Allen, Austin and Seattle. Apart from acquiring Boss Fight Entertainment, Netflix recently purchased Next Games, a free-to-play game developer based in Helsinki, Finland, for $72 million. Next Games is famous for developing games based on popular entertainment videos like “Stranger Things” and “Walking Dead” games. Next Game, founded in 2013 and managed by Teemu Huuhtanen, develops and runs engaging mobile games that have an international appeal and a genuine social fan experience. Netflix’s acquisition of Next Games is expected to complete in the second quarter of 2022.

Before that, Netflix acquired Night School Studio in September 2022. The streaming company, which has approximately 222 million paid memberships in more than 190 nations worldwide, did not disclose the amount of money it paid to acquire the studio. Night School Studio is an American video developer and the creator of top video games like “Next Stop Nowhere” and “Oxenfree”.

To further augments its gaming business, Netflix released a list of five mobile gaming titles in specific European markets. Netflix launched a new gaming service to all Android subscribers and later rolled out the service for iPhone and iPad users.
