For fans of electronic music, Crystal Castles is a band name that will not soon be forgotten. Their 80s inspired indie dance tunes created a whole new genre that has connected with many electronic music lovers. However, in recent years, the pathway to musical success hasn’t been paved with gold. Ever since Alice Glass left Crystal Castles in 2014, there has been a great deal of speculation as to what actually happened between Glass and founding member Ethan Kass. When glass came out with accusations of sexual and other forms of abuse in October of 2017, Kass was put in the hot seat.

As with many celebrities, Kass felt as though this was a great hit to his reputation and career. Filing a defamation lawsuit was the obvious thing for Kass to do if he wanted to restore any dignity and win back fans that may have been alienated by what he said were false accusations. Defamation lawsuits are always very difficult for judges and juries to rule on.

However, on February 23, Glass announced that the case was dismissed. This backed up her former statement last week where she stated everything she told fans on social media about Kass was true. Glass also states that this is a victory for any survivor of abuse. The attorney representing Kass said, “My client categorically denies all the malicious lies about sexual abuse. At no time did my client ever force Alice Glass into having sex with him against her will, much less by use of violence or drugs to take advantage of her.”

It is hard for fans of Crystal Castles to understand how a band they once loved is now involved in such a harsh scandal. Only time will tell what actually happens to Kass as this case unfolds. As for now, Kass continues to make music under the name Crystal Castles with new singer Edith Frances. Glass will also continue with her solo project.
