Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer and Emmy Award winner Melissa McCarthy are looking to attempt to team up for an original Netflix comedy film. The new movie “Thunder Force” is reportedly a comedic look at superheroes made to appeal to a broad audience on the streaming media service.

According to EW’s report, McCarthy’s husband Ben Falcone is set to write and direct the film which won’t be R-rated so it can appeal to a widespread audience. Falcone has written previous films “Tammy” and “The Boss.” He’ll also produce the film along with McCarthy and Marc Platt. It will focus on McCarthy and Spencer’s characters receiving special superpowers.

Octavia Spencer and Melissa McCarthy have never teamed up in any movie before. Spencer won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2011’s “The Help.” The 46-year-old has received three Academy Award nominations during her career with nods in 2017 and 2018 for “Hidden Figures” and “The Shape of Water,” respectively. She’s set to star in a new psychological horror-thriller “Ma” from Blumhouse.

McCarthy, now 48, has never won an Academy Award, but was nominated for “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” She won the Emmy for her role in TV’s “Mike and Molly.” McCarthy has a pair of films in post-production set for 2019. She’ll play Kathy in American crime drama “The Kitchen” and Carol Peters in the action comedy “Superintelligence.” Late night show host James Corden and actor Bryan Tyree Henry will also be a part of the latter.

The new Netflix film “Thunder Force” isn’t a done deal yet. Deadline reported that the respective actresses are in talks to make it happen. However, it appears that Netflix could possibly cash in on the superhero craze that has captured billions of dollars in revenue at the box office based on a catalog of hit films from Disney/Marvel and Warner Bros./DC.
