Can a day pass without Kanye West on the headlines? Barely. The music superstar announced that he would be part of McDonald’s rebranding and packaging. The repackaging will be done on the famous company’s burger wrapper with a ‘reimagined’ idea.
In his return to Instagram, the 44-year-old rapper posted a photo of the new design that they were working on.
On the McDonald’s announcement, Kanye said that he would partner with Naoko Fukasawa on the project. Naoko works as an industrial designer for Muji. Captioning on his Instagram Stories, Kanye wrote, ‘Next week it’s the fries.’ It was a reference to a song he did back in 2005 called Gold Digger that had similar words in its lyrics.
Looking at the new design, it portrays a Kanye West style. It has a boxy shape and a clear wrapper. Similar to his previous interior design styles and his famous Yeezy clothing brand, the packaging design was simple and subtle.
Nonetheless, the new design is very different from the traditional McDonald’s packaging. Its subtle design contrasts the bright colors synonymous with the original packaging.
While the move isn’t a surprise to many, considering Ye’s antics, it is also not the first time Kanye and McDonald’s are mentioned in the same sentence. In 2020, Kanye appeared on McDonald’s Instagram post with his ex-wife Kim Kardashian. The post was about the couple’s favorite meals.
For Kanye, he fancied Chicken McNuggets, Tangy BBQ sauce, a milkshake, and a side of fries. On the other hand, Kim preferred French Fries, Chicken McNuggets, apple pie, and a hamburger.
This announcement marked Kanye’s return to the popular social media platform, Instagram. He had been suspended from the platform for apparently using hate speech. His suspension lasted 24 hours, and it followed his attack on ex-wife Kim Kardashian and her current boyfriend, comedian Pete Davidson.
A representative from Meta, Instagram’s parent company, commented on the matter. He said that the music star’s posts went against the company’s guidelines on bullying and hate speech. The post expressed his concern that his ex-wife would get hooked on drugs due to her association with Pete Davidson.
Kanye also took a dig at The Daily Show’s host Trevor Noah, who had commented on the ex-lovers’ fighting.
