The CW’s Arrowverse has found its Lois Lane. Grimm star Elizabeth Tulloch will play DC Comics’ most famous reporter opposite Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman on an upcoming crossover event that will span Supergirl, Arrow, and The Flash this December. Lane has been referenced numerous times on Supergirl. While traditionally depicted as Clark Kent’s love interest, it remains to be seen if the two will be romantically involved in the Arrowverse adaptation. Despite their relationship status being up for debate, season two of Supergirl hinted that Lane already knows that Kent is Superman. Tulloch’s casting has been met with positive reactions from fans of the Arrowverse series, who note that she bears a striking resemblance to Margot Kidder, who played Lois Lane in the Superman films of the 70s and 80s.
Arrowverse stars are already expressing excitement for the upcoming crossover event. Speaking at Heroes and Villains Fan Fest New Jersey last week, Hoechlin said that so many new characters appearing in the series for the first time will make for a larger, more fun event. Grant Gustin, who plays The Flash, said that finally having The Flash and Superman together on screen will raise the event to cinematic proportions. Gustin added that the storyline erases the stigma that TV comic book adaptations are inferior to film adaptions. Tulloch herself took to Instagram to thank executives at The CW for casting her in the role. Tulloch was also grateful for the enthusiastic fan response to her casting, promising to treat the character with respect. Tulloch also pointed out that since being introduced in the 30s, Lois Lane has been portrayed as an individual that defies gender norms and she will rest her interpretation of Lane on this cornerstone. The leaked casting call for Lane described her as a stubborn reporter and the tenacious daughter of a United States Army general who goes to any length to get the story.
Tulloch’s casting was followed by news that Cassandra Jean Amell, wife of Arrow star Stephen Amell, had also been cast in the crossover episode as Nora Fries. As fans of DC Comics know, Nora Fries is the wife of Victor Fries, otherwise known as the Batman villain Mr. Freeze. No further information on the casting was provided and it is unknown if Mr. Freeze will make an appearance in the crossover event.
