A shooting at a Colorado premiere of The Dark Knight Rises has left at least ten people dead and almost 40 injured.

The incident happened at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado; a few miles outside of Denver.

Moviegoers were said to be 15-minutes into the midnight premiere of The Dark Knight Rises when two men “casually” walked to the front of the theater before opening fire on the audience.

Eyewitnesses speaking to Colorado 9-News say they thought it was all part of the show until others started to panic and run.

It wasn’t until the gunmen dropped a cannister of teargas before fleeing the scene that everyone knew something was wrong.

Brenda Stuart at Denver’s KOA Radio described the horrific scene, saying: “All of a sudden, they saw bullets flying, and a lot of people ran screaming from the theater. Then the tear gas came…”

Both men were said to be wearing “Bane-Style” masks and body armor, leading many so speculate about the motivation of the attack.

The latest reports from the area say that one man matching the description of one of the gunmen has already been arrested; however the other still remains at large.

All local police officers in the area have been called in to help with the manhunt, with FBI agents due to join them soon.

Our thoughts go out to all those affected by this horrific incident.

Latest Updates:

(Reports of two separate incidents are actually referring to those injured next door by stray bullets)
