The 70th annual Golden Globe Ceremony took place in Beverly Hills on Sunday night. Hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, the ceremony aims to recognize the best in film and television from the past year.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, ‘Les Miserables’ dominated the movie nominations taking home the awards for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Actor (Hugh Jackman), and Best Supporting Actress (Anne Hathaway).

Whilst accepting his award, Jackman thanked his wife “for always being right” when she successfully persuaded him not to quit the movie.

However ‘Skyfall,’ which appeared absent for much of the nominations, nabbed the award for Best Original Song with Adele’s ‘Skyfall.’

Other notable winners include Ben Affleck for Best Director for his work on ‘Argo,’ a movie depicting the rescue of American diplomatic personnel from 1979 revolutionary Iran.

The movie also won the award for Best Motion Picture – Drama despite failing to receive any Oscar nominations.

Steven Spielberg‘s ‘Lincoln’ suffered the greatest disappointment of the night receiving only one of the seven awards for which it was nominated. The prized globe went to Daniel Day-Lewis for Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama.

Meanwhile, in the world of television ‘Homeland’ won three awards winning Best TV Series – Drama, Best Actor – TV Series Drama (Damian Lewis) and Best Actress – TV Series Drama (Claire Danes).

‘Girls’ won the award for Best TV Series – Comedy and Maggie Smith took home the gong for Best Supporting Actress for her role in ‘Downton Abbey,’ the only award given to the successful British period drama.
