Raven-Symoné has come out of the closet on Twitter.

The former child star, full name Raven-Symoné Christina Pearman, took to Twitter to confirm what most of the world has suspected for a long time – That she is a lesbian.

Raven has been tweeting about acceptance and love more often over the past few weeks, such as a tweet last week which read: “Don’t judge. Just enjoy. Change/love/happiness,” in response to recent government decisions striking down homophobic laws and moving towards marriage equality.

Now, the 27-year-old actress/singer has revealed how she is personally affected by the new laws, tweeting: “I can finally get married! Yay government! So proud of you.”

Many fans have been surprised by revelation, however there has been much speculation about Raven’s sexuality in the past. It was widely believed that the female companion that accompanied Raven when she was Punk’d in 2005 was in fact her lover. Explicit requests were made to MTV to keep this person off-camera, and it seems that now we know why.

Don’t expect wedding bells too soon though. Raven has since clarified her tweets, saying: “I am very happy that gay marriage is opening up around the country and is being accepted. I was excited to hear today that more states legalized gay marriage. I, however am not currently getting married, but it is great to know I can now, should I wish to.”

This is the first time the actress/singer has opened up to the public about her personal life. In response to rumors circulating about her sexuality in 2012, Raven tweeted: “I’m living my PERSONAL life the way I’m happiest. I’m not one, in my 25 year career to disclose who I’m dating. And I shall not start now.”

She went on to say: “My sexual orientation is mine, and the person I’m dating to know. I’m not one for a public display of my life,” she added.

Raven is best known for her role in hit Disney Channel series “That’s So Raven,” which aired from 2003-2007. Since getting her start in the entertainment industry at just 3-years-old on the iconic “Cosby Show,” she has gone on to appear in numerous movies and television series, and has enjoyed a relatively successful music career in the past.
