Legendary Beatle, Sir Paul McCartney has been awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame – the last of The Beatles to receive the honor.

Although The Beatles were collectively awarded a star in 1998 McCartney remains the only Beatle to not yet have been individually acknowledged. Both John Lennon and George Harrison were immortalised on Hollywood Boulevard posthumously, while Ringo Starr accepted the honor in 2010.

McCartney was first nominated for a star almost twenty years ago but a ceremony was never scheduled.

Speaking at the ceremony, which took place outside the Capital Records building, McCartney recalled: “Way back in history, in Liverpool when we were kids and we were listening to Buddy Holly and all the Rock and Roll greats, I would never have thought the day would come when I’d be getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.”

“That was like the most impossible thing to happen. But here we are today, and it’s happening. But I couldn’t have done it, certainly, without three boys – so I want to say thanks to those guys, John, George and Ringo.”

Fellow rocker Neil Young introduced McCartney at the ceremony, admiring the former Beatle: “He’s at the top of his game…Like Charlie Chaplin was a great actor, that’s how I look at Paul.”

It has recently been confirmed McCartney will headline at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in the summer, alongside Sir Tom Jones and JLS.
