President Obama praised Dark Knight Rises star Anne Hathaway at a campaign fundraiser at the home of producer Harvey Weinstein.

“I got a chance to see Batman, and she was the best thing in it,” Obama said. “That’s just my personal opinion.”

Hathaway attended the fundraiser as co-host alongside writer Aaron Sorkin, actress Joanne Woodward and Weinstein.

Obama’s Hollywood compliments were not limited to his admiration of Hathaway’s Catwoman role. He also told Sorkin that he “writes the way every Democrat in Washington wished they spoke.”

This is not Obama’s only comic book connection. He revealed that he used to collect Spider-man and Conan the Barbarian comic books.

The presidential kudos comes alongside the announcement that The Dark Knight Rises, which has grossed $732 million worldwide, is the second highest-grossing film of 2012. The Dark Knight beat out the former second place film, the animated feature Ice Age: Continental Drift.

The Dark Knight still trails significantly behind the year’s number one film, The Avengers, which has taken in $1.46 billion.
