Harold and Kumar’s newest challenge is a little more complicated than locating the nearest White Castle.

The duo is back together to support the president’s bid for re-election this November.

A new ad for the 2012 Democratic National Convention features ‘Harold and Kumar’ co-stars Kal Penn and John Cho getting a phone call from President Barack Obama.

Penn will host the “Live from Charlotte” event coverage Thursday on BarackObama.com.

The web ad, clearly aimed at young voters, begins with President Obama making a phone call the yet-to-be-identified Penn. Obama opens with, “Hey this is Barack. Listen, I need to know if you’re on board.”

After we hear Obama speaking with mock-seriousness about an upcoming event, the ad cuts to Penn and Cho munching on pizza and watching TV.

Cho: “Who is that? Sounded intense?”

Penn: “The president.”

Cho: “Sweet.”

Unfortunately, Neil Patrick Harris does not make a surprise cameo appearance in the ad.

Elizabeth Banks, Aisha Tyler, Olivia Wilde, Fran Drescher and Zach Braff are scheduled to join Penn at the web event.

Penn has been involved with the Obama administration in the past. In 2007 and 2008, he campaigned for Obama and was a member of Obama’s National Arts Policy Committee. Penn was a director of public engagement at The White House in 2009, working as a liaison between the administration and the Asian communities.

In addition to his hosting duties, Penn is also slated to speak at the DNC Tuesday night.
