Rapper Lupe Fiasco has weighed in on the revelation that Drake doesn’t write his own lyrics.
He posted an open letter titled “The Haunting” on Instagram, where he decreed that ghostwriting will forever be an integral part of the rap game.
The MC, hailing from Chicago and known for Tetsuo & Youth, which came out back in January, declared that rap affects others in a myriad of ways; from the people who declare that they are “not a rapper” and wear that as a badge of honor; to those who hustle daily, “Where rap is their first love and the first thing they think about when they wake up and the last thing they think about when they go to sleep.”
Lupe Fiasco continues by saying that the radio and the commercial realm has injured rap by setting up “ambiguous rules and systems for success that don’t take into consideration the quality and skill of the rappers craft.” He ends his post by stating that although ghostwriters or “ghosts” are here to stay, the rap game is still alive, active, and most important of all, it “feels.”
Meanwhile, Meek Mill has calmed down after his game-changing rant, issuing an apology to Nicki Minaj, and also giving a shout out to Drake during Nicki’s The Pinkprint tour.
