Rapper Lil’ B attended official tryouts for his local D-League basketball team, The Santa Cruz Warriors.

The team operates as an affiliate of NBA team The Golden State Warriors, similar to the minor leagues in Major League Baseball.

“ITS CRAZY CUZ I THOUGHT COACH WUD BE PLAYING ME AS THE 1 AT NBA TRY OUTS TODAY BUT HE WANTED ME AT THE 2, TODAY WAS #BASED HISTORY,” he wrote on his twitter account yesterday.

Local news affiliate KSBW interviewed several of the participants, including the rapper, who said, “Just putting my skills to the test, supporting Bay Area teams, and spreading that love.”

Lil’ B has a vocal past about his appreciation of the game, using the cover of the 1996 basketball movie ‘Space Jam’ as this basis cover art for one of his 2012 mixtapes, ‘Based Jam.’

The rapper also had a small feud with NBA All-Star and Olympian Kevin Durant after Durant called him out for being a “wack” rapper. Lil’ B retaliated, tweeting: “Yo leave me alone lol, if you wanna play me you gotta come to OKC I’m not coming to Oakland.”

Lil’ B didn’t back down from the challenge, but as of yet neither have faced off.
