Richard Turner, a trumpet player with Indie band Friendly Fires and front man of his own band, Round Trip has died aged 27.

The young musician suffered a cardiac arrest on August 11 while swimming at a South London outdoor swimming pool. According to The Daily Mail, Richard Turner was a strong swimmer, having recently completed the Great North Swim.

The UK based band played tribute to Turner on their official website, saying: “Rich played trumpet in our live gigs on and off for three years. He was an utterly exceptional musician and his contributions to our shows will be hugely missed. He was also an accomplished and admired composer.”

Andy Turner, Richard’s brother, told The Evening Standard of his brother’s insurmountable contributions to the UK jazz scene. Regarding Richard’s involvement with jazz gigs at the Con Cellar Bar in Camden Andy stated: “He started from nothing and built it into one of the premier jazz events on the whole of London. I don’t think he ever took a penny in profit.”

The gifted musician sadly joins a host of musical talents who all died at 27. The list includes Kurt Cobain, Jimmy Hendrix, and most recently Amy Winehouse.
