London’s Metropolitan Police released a statement earlier today saying:

“Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05hrs today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased. On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene.”

We can now confirm that the person who was found at the scene was talented British Soul singer Amy Winehouse.

The circumstances of her death are still unexplained, but enquiries are continuing. The “Rehab” singer had a well documented history of battling drug and alcohol addictions, and just recently left a drug rehabilitation program she was admitted to after canceling a number of european tour dates.

Winehouse’s death further perpetuates the notion of “The 27 Club;” a celebrity phenomenon that sees a large proportion of influential artists die at the age of 27, including the likes of Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Kurt Cobain.

Our thoughts go out to her family and friends, and the many who were inspired by her incredible talent.
